Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel, Villareal’s Samuel Chukwu Eze and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho have all made the 25-man provisional squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations released by the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.
Captain Mikel Obi, who had a stellar outing with Middlesborough in the second half of the season in the English Championship, last played for the Nigeria in the Country’s last game against Argentoina at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and didn’t feature during the qualifying series for the 2019 Africa Cup. Kelechi Iheanacho has had a disappointing season with former premier league Champions Leicester City, with his last appearance for the Foxes coming in their second to the last game of the season against Man City at the Etihad and Villarreal youngster Samuel Chukwueze are also in the squad after settling to play for the Super Eagles at the African tournament rather than the FIFA U20 World Cup starting in 2 weeks in Poland.
The Super Eagles Camp will open the 2nd of June, with all players expected to report to Camp and in preparation for tune up games against Zimbabwe (Asaba, Nigeria) on June 8 and Senegal (Egypt) on the 16th of June before departing the following day for Egypt.
